What is Normal?
They say that food unites - but can it also divide (the internet)?!
I have always found it fascinating what cultures see as #normal when it comes to sharing meals, splitting bills and hospitality in general.
Having been born in Sweden, I have been sent to play Lego in the room next door while my playmates and their family ate dinner, at 5pm. Of course, that is a #stereotype, and I’ve also shared many meals with Swedes over the years. In Sri Lanka, the stereotypical Asian Aunty ‘eat, eat, eat’ to anyone who walks in the door also rings true!
What’s ‘normal’ in your family / culture / personal preference?! Let me know in the comments.
I find the #theintercultural field is so fascinating, as so much of our lives revolve around culture - but which one?
Personally, I have a 🇸🇪 sense of time, an 🇬🇧 obsession with politeness, 🇳🇱 love for planning, 🇪🇸 body clock, and am quite 🇱🇰 in my hospitality!
