Representation, or lack thereof
Taking a small Burgher break to give you a little context, because I’m acutely aware that my #perspective isn’t representative. 🇱🇰
For a tiny teardrop island, the #diversity of landscapes and cultures in Sri Lanka is truly staggering. The 22 million+ inhabitants of our island are broken down by ethnicity- Sinhalese (74.9%), Sri Lankan Tamil (11.2%), Sri Lankan Moors (9.2%), Indian Tamil (4.2%), and others (0.5%).
Burghers, like myself are amongst the ‘others’ - so while that is my current research focus, it is in no way representative of the majority of this country. Sri Lanka's documented history goes back 3,000 years, with evidence of prehistoric human settlements that date back at least 125,000 years.
So as I soak up the last week in my island home - I look forward to diving deeper and sharing more when I’m back in my colder home.
