…it took me over 20 years
…it took me over 20 years to figure out where I should call home.
It’s very hard to explain feeling heart broken for a country and her people. While I hear daily from loved ones - waiting over 28 hours in line for petrol, basic medication not being available and food shortages becoming a terrifying possibility - the global news cycle moves on.
Sri Lankans are resilient, out of necessity. As if a 29 year civil war, a devastating tsunami, Easter Bombings and a global pandemic wasn’t enough - throw in power cuts, nepotism and shameless greed.
I struggle with how helpless I feel when physically distanced from (a) home, but I’m glad to say I have friends who’ve turned to action. Check out the links below if you’d like to help financially. If you’d like to help by simply talking about what is happening in my island home, please do.
A lot of people in my network, and my field, will recognise what it’s like to have pieces of yourself across the 🌎.
Anyone who has visited Sri Lanka knows that this little island is special. It’s hard to explain, but not to see. 🇱🇰
